The girls'
tennis team is nearing the end of an epic team run, having won their third consecutive D1 CIF Title on Friday and then winning on Tuesday in the first round of The Southern Section State Regional.  They'll play the quarters and semis this Friday at the Claremont Club and then hopefully the finals on Saturday also at the Claremont Club. With a little luck and a lot of willpower, they have a chance to win an unprecedented third straight state title, but a couple really good San Diego schools might stand in their way.

On Tuesday they beat Bishop's La Jolla 7-0 in the last home game for 4-year varsity starters Alana Roth, Sara Khattab and Ena Shibahara, who all won their singles matches.  Freshman Amanda Sharng also won in singles as did the doubles junior duo of Tia Elpusan/Sarina Liu, the sophomore-junior tandem of Laudan Hosseini/Katelyn Parker and the freshmen sensations Serena Liu/Lindsay Thomas.

Last week The Panthers cruised to the CIF Finals with decisive wins over Northwood and Dana Hills, but had to battle from behind to overtake Harvard-Westlake 10-8. "In some ways," Coach Hoeger said, "that win was the most satisfying because it showed great heart and conviction. The team really supported one another."

After the team championship, Ena Shibahara and Ryan Peus will enter the CIF individual championships as singles players and Sara Khattab and Tia Elpusan will do the same on the doubles' side. The finals are at the Seal Beach Tennis Center on Dec. 3.

Peninsula Student Maverick Doherty
Competes in Fencing

This past weekend freshman Doherty Maverick competed in USA Fencing's November North American Cup (NAC) in Kansas City, MO. She competed in 3 age categories for Women's Sabre; Y14, Cadet (U17) and Junior (U20). She finished in 7th place in Y14 (out of 71) earning a medal and more national points for that age group.  In the Cadet category she finished 30th (out of 128) also earning national points for that age group and increasing her National Ranking and points standings in both the Cadet age group and Y14 category.
However, Maverick's biggest accomplishment this weekend was her 7th
place finish in the Junior Women's sabre event. There were 142 competitors in this event with several fencers from colleges around the country including Columbia and Penn State University. Having just turned 14, this made her the youngest competitor on the podium (top 8 receive medals). She is also now a nationally ranked junior fencer and is automatically qualified to compete in USA Fencing Association's Junior Olympics in February in Cleveland, Ohio.
Great job Maverick, Peninsula is so very proud of you!!!

This past Wednesday football alumni Todd Huber and football enthusiast/actor Larry Campbell attended our annual Career Fair and stole the show!  It was inspirational to hear about all the great things our former Panthers are doing and how football has positively affected their lives.  At the fair, we received the names of 100 Panthers who are interested in joining or supporting our football program.
