The better way to measure blood pressure: Out of the office

The 2015 CHEP Guidelines recommend the use of ambulatory or home blood pressure measurement for a definitive diagnosis of hypertension.

In this CTV segment with Avis Favaro, Dr. Raj Padwal discusses the importance of out-of-office blood pressure measurement and how it can be used to improve accuracy. You can watch the video
here, and learn more about the diagnostic algorithm for hypertension here.

CTV National News: Treating high blood pressure, first aired Monday, November 2, 2015.

Hypertension Canada's CHEP Guidelines rated best internationally

An international group based in Peru reviewed three different sets of clinical practice guidelines - the European Society of Hypertension (ESH), the Eighth Joint National Committee (JNC8) and Hypertension Canada's CHEP Guidelines - and found that the CHEP Guidelines ranked the highest overall, recommending their use without modifications. Thanks to their clarity, purpose and fulsome scope, the CHEP Guidelines received the best score for research and corresponding recommendations.  The full review is available here in its original Spanish.

Improving Patient Understanding of  Clinical Trials

The Network of Networks has launched a new website called It Starts With Me to educate the public about the importance of clinical trials and the possibilities that emerge from them. The site covers topics ranging from finding the best treatments to the broader social benefits of clinical trials, and provides patients with the resources they need to make informed decisions about clinical trial participation.
