Hypertension Canada eINFO - August 2015

With a month to go until Labour Day, the race is on to soak up the summer sun! So we've been thinking a lot about people living with hypertension, and how we can help them to control their blood pressure and get the most from life. This issue of eINFO focuses on the research, education and advocacy that they need to succeed and that we at Hypertension Canada do our best to facilitate. We hope you enjoy... and then get yourself outside!

Putting Patients First
CIHR funds Hypertension Canada to develop global, patient-centred research priorities in hypertension

A Hypertension Canada team lead by Dr. Nadia Khan, Principal Researcher, has been awarded a grant to engage people living with hypertension in a priority-setting partnership that will determine global research priorities in hypertension. The team will follow the principles of the James Lind Alliance to help patients, carers and clinicians tackle treatment uncertainties together. Stay tuned to eINFO for opportunities for your patients to get involved.

Studies that Changed Us
CFPC lists its Top 10 classic research initiatives

Canadian Family Physicians have identified 10 classic research studies that continue to influence practice today. In addition to their usefulness as tools for teaching, advocating, and championing the contribution of research to modern family practice, these studies are important examples of the value of research to patient health in Canada and around the world. Sincere congratulations to Hypertension Canada Board Member and Operations Committee Co-Chair Dr. Janusz Kaczorowski, whose "very large, well designed" Cardiovascular Health Awareness Program (CHAP) was included on the list.

Tracking and Monitoring
New program at Sunnybrook hospital enables the kind of two-way communication we all need

MyChart enables patients to become more proactive in monitoring their health by allowing them to view physicians' notes, enter data for physicians to review, and track and monitor their progress. Patients can also link in their other health care providers through the "Share My Record" option.  Physicians can limit the information that is shared as they deem appropriate. Read more.
