Healthy Environments take centre stage during the Opening Panel Discussion at the Canadian Hypertension Congress
The need for collaboration in the creation of healthy environments for the prevention and control of hypertension was echoed across all sectors. Carlo Berardi of the Canadian Pharmacists Association highlighted some of the work pharmacists can do to follow-up with patients between doctor visits. Dr. Marie-Dominique Beaulieu of the College of Family Physicians of Canada emphasized the need for collaborative efforts that prevent hypertension in the first place. Rodney Ghali of the Public Health Agency of Canada talked about the need to direct resources to hard-to-reach populations. And Jeff Leger of Loblaw underscored the need for a holistic approach, where grocery shoppers have access to health care professionals, like pharmacists and dietitians, in the stores where they make food purchasing decisions.
