Presidents report on CHEP's international profile
As the President of the International Society of Hypertension, I had the opportunity to attend the May 9-10 meeting of the Korean Society of Hypertension, and the May 17 First Congress of the Vietnam Society of Hypertension.
At both meetings, recommendations for management of hypertension were discussed by numerous speakers as part of the effort of both societies in South Korea and in Vietnam to create local guidelines. It was amazing to me that many of the speakers repeatedly brought up the CHEP recommendations either alone or in comparison to the ESH/ESC, NICE, JNC or ASH/ISH.
I believe that it is gratifying for all members of CHEP, but also for all members of Hypertension Canada, to be aware of the international impact of CHEP, to what degree the rigour and the evidence-based approach of CHEP are recognized abroad, and as they are used to base other countries' or regions' guidelines for management of hypertension, our work at CHEP and Hypertension Canada not only contributes to improve outcomes of hypertensive patients in our country, but also contributes to reduce strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and more around the world.
My congratulations to all those who collaborate with the CHEP process in one way or another.
Ernesto Schiffrin C.M., MD, PhD
