IN FOCUS
World Hypertension Day is May 17th
We are pleased to join our global colleagues in recognizing World Hypertension Day on May 17th. Canadians are fortunate that this country's prevalence - 20 percent of the adult population - is half of the global rate, but we all know there is much more work to do. A key step to further progress is the theme of World Hypertension Day, "Know Your Blood Pressure". This May, Hypertension Canada will pilot a small-scale public relations campaign through radio, internet, and social media to test some public awareness messages and strategies. We will call attention to the importance of knowing and tracking one's blood pressure, and provide supplemental information about healthy lifestyle changes. Based on the results, we will plan annual activities for World Hypertension Day to promote the prevention and control of high blood pressure. I invite you to join our efforts, and promote World Hypertension Day, in whatever way you can in your community. If you have ideas for future campaigns, or would like to collaborate with us, send an email message to admin@hypertension.ca. We appreciate your support. With Best Wishes,

Annual Knowledge Translation Meeting

On April 26-27, the Knowledge Translation Committee conducted the annual review of Hypertension Canada's educational resources. This review follows the annual CHEP Recommendations update and ensures the content of Hypertension Canada's educational resources aligns to the newly-approved Recommendations.
Many inter-professional volunteers contribute to this process. Each resource is assigned to a sub-committee for advance review and preparation of recommended content updates. At the meeting, all proposed changes are vetted and approved by the full Knowledge Translation Committee. Over 600 hours is dedicated to the translation of Hypertension Canada's Recommendations to educational resources for the hypertensive patient and the professionals who treat them.
Want to volunteer in next year's review? Send an email to admin@hypertension.ca
