Dear

Life often throws us a curve. One day we are fine, the next we are dealing with a major illness. A phone call comes that a parent has died. Tears are shed as we drop our child off at college. A coworker demeans you in front of the entire office. All of these are moments that can wound us.

Some wounds are visible (like trying to walk when your legs won't do what you want them to do). Other hurts are internal, shared with a few people or carried on our own. What wounds do you have? Are they recent wounds? Or is it something from years ago you still carry with you? Over the next few weeks, we will explore the wounds we carry, how God can help us heal those wounds, and how our healed wounds can lead us to be wounded healers.

Below is a list of the upcoming Sundays and the Scriptures we will look at. If you have some time, read the text, then come and join together as we invite God to heal our hurts and pains.
  • Sept. 11: External Wounds - Mark 1:39-45.
  • Sept. 18: Internal Wounds - Isaiah 40:21-31.
  • Oct. 2: Jesus, The Wounded Healer - Matthew 11:28-30.
  • October 9: The Church As Healer - Luke 10:1-9.
Time Away.  Jim will be off from September 20 - October 1. If you need anything, please contact the Deacons or a Session member.

Small Groups are starting back up this fall. This is a wonderful way to get to know others and add study and fun conversation to your faith journey. Here are some to choose from:

M&M Small Group

Begins Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Home of Mark and Mary Miller, 412 Eagle Ride, Chatham. Phone: 741-2096. Studying When I Lay My Isaac Down by Carol Kent.
9-Week Book Group Studying Prayer
Begins Oct. 2. Max Lucado claims to be a recovering "prayer wimp," who admits to letting his mind wander during prayer. If you'd like to pray more effectively, please join a new small group to read and discuss Lucado's book, Before Amen. The group will meet for nine weeks beginning Sunday, Oct. 2 from 6 - 7:30 p.m., at Don and Jane Byram's home, 314 Breckenridge Road, Chatham. Contact Jane at 483-3493 (H), 725-5948 (C) or by email at [email protected] for more details.
Soul Food and Falling Upward by Richard Rohr.
First and third Wed. of each month at 6:30 p.m. (not Sept. 21) at JoAnn and Jim Reitz's home, 213 Karros Pointe, Chatham. We spend so much of our time building our lives (career, marriage, children, etc.), but have we forgotten to develop a foundation for a great life? Big moments cause us to step back and reflect. Let's look at how we can fill our lives with God's presence in a very real and special way.

Women in the Word will resume meeting on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8 p.m. starting Sept. 6 at the church studying Twelve Ordinary Men by John MacArthur. Contact Laura 494-0503 or Mary 414-2988.
