Greetings!

Recently I have been reading some articles about the drought taking place in California.  The images of the lakes and reservoirs nearly drained of water is a scary sight for those living in that area.  My mind wandered to Psalm 42:1 which states, "As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God."  But what happens if there is no "water" to drink?  What does one do when their soul feels empty? Where does one turn in the time of a Spiritual drought?
This is spring.  Time for renewal, time for the awakening of all of God's wonderful creation.  It is a glorious reminder that even in the midst of difficult times, God is waiting to restore and renew our hearts.  Where do you find that renewal in your life? I want to encourage us to find time EACHday for prayer and reading of Scripture. Even when we feel empty and not sure it is doing us any good, be persistent.  For God is there, waiting to renew and strength us.  Gather and worship with this Community of Faith, where together we can encourage one another in God's love.  Find a small group that will help feed your soul so that we can be filled with God's goodness.  That way, as God begins doing a new thing in our lives, we will be ready to perceive it and to allow it to refresh our souls.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Needs Help

Due to the recent earthquakes in Nepal, the
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is providing emergency relief and short-term recovery in impacted areas, and will remain there as long as necessary. Financial assistance is needed and welcomed. To donate today, please place checks to the PDA in the offering plate. Continue to pray for the Nepalese people as well as the PDA workers during this time of crisis.

May 10: "Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy"
May 17:  "The Grass is Greener On the Other Side"
May 24: "Perfect Soil" -  Pentecost

Important Information for Our Volunteers
If you work in any way with any program of our nursery, children's and/or youth ministries, it's time to update your annual training.  This is true for adults as well as youth working in these areas.
The Human Resources Team has made it possible to take this training online at your convenience.
Contact Laura VanProyen (494-0503) for login information.
Thank you for making time to complete your training during May!

 Miscellaneous Awesome Stuff!

  • Volunteer Appreciation Sun. May 31. We love our volunteers -- from vacuuming the sanctuary to scrubbing bathrooms, pulling weeds and folding bulletins, we have folks who do a little bit of everything. Help us recognize them on this special Sunday.
  • Save the date for Confirmation Sunday, June 21. Special Celebration at Worship and a reception to follow.
  • Did you know that CPC is one of two churches helping to sponsor Habitat for Humanity's
100th home through our mission dollars? Check out this SJR article here. Stay tuned for upcoming work days in the near future. We'll need your muscle, too!
  • CPC Leadership Retreat for Session, Deacons and Staff on May 9 at the Chiara Retreat Center.  This will be a day of finalizing structure within the church and determining what areas of major emphasis to pursue in the coming year. Last year, we decided to work on financial stability, hiring a Youth Director and planning for structure to help with ongoing ministry and mission. All three have been accomplished or are in the process. Say a prayer of thanks for your awesome leadership here at CPC.
  • Summer Camp Opportunities:
If you're looking for summer activities for your children, consider Stronghold Camp & Retreat Center's summer camp programs.
For children who have completed kindergarten through 12th grade as well as Intergenerational Camps for families. Information is available at the Clubhouse check-in counter or online at www.strongholdcenter.org/summercamps.
For first-hand recommendations from someone who's been there, contact Judy Woerner (685-1760).

Cleaning Help Needed

Good with a mop, vacuum cleaner or dust rag? We have an immediate need for a family to sweep and mop Olsen Hall and the kitchen every other week. This is a great job to do with your kids and teach them about giving back. Contact Tadd Moorehead at 801-0053 to help.
