A Note from Pastor Jim

Lazy Days of Summer

Yes, summer is finally here. . . or will be officially on June 21. Summer is a time to slow down and renew your body, mind and soul. So, what will you be doing this summer to deepen your faith? Spending some time reading?

Let me suggest a few books to check out: Falling Upward  by Richard Rohr, Help, Thanks, Wow by Ann Lamott, Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen, Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller, Night by Elie Wiesel, Wide Open Spaces by Beth Booram, Through Peasant Eyes by Ken Bailey, How God Changes Your Brain by Newberg & Waldman and any book by Dietrich Bonhoeffer and C. S. Lewis.

Summer is a great time to re-read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe with the kids. Looking for a novel? Here are a few with a faith perspective: The Clowns of God by Morris West and The Blood of the Lamb by Peter De Vries.  I would love to hear your thoughts if you get a chance to read one of these books. Also, I have many other titles in my office available to lend.

Interested in Mission?

I am having a short gathering for anyone interested in doing "hands-on mission" work through CPC. Are you interested in offering your time and skills to help others in need? Could you give a few hours, a day, maybe even a week? Then gather with us in the Parlor following the Worship Celebration on June 8. If you cannot attend but have an interest, please contact me in the office or email jareitz@comcast.net.

Youth Raise Money
for 2014 Mission Trip

It's been a busy few weeks for the Frontline Youth! We just finished up a successful pancake breakfast bar fundraiser, enjoyed a wild day at Skateland South, and now final exams are over! Plans for the summer are underway, including another paintball excursion on Monday, June 30th - this time with Clay Kuetemeyer to challenge us!

It's been a wonderful school year for Frontline, and the summer is just as active with our Louisville mission trip in July, and a trip to Six Flags. Stay tuned for details!
