2012 Annual Report

Chatham Presbyterian Church
2012 Annual Report
CPC building

2012 was a year of heart-wrenching change, but we grew as a congregation in our faith, and we learned to rely on the Lord as our Sole (and Soul) Provider.

Confirmation
Pastor Joe Eby and the Session came together in March and decided to go in different directions.  He, wife Susan and daughter Maggie said good-bye after Confirmation Service on April 29th. The congregation thanked them for 16 years of dedicated service and wished them the best in their new endeavors.

Keith Anderson
Pastor Keith Anderson
provided pulpit supply for CPC in May, June and July.  His sermons began the healing process, and the congregation enjoyed getting to know him and his family, especially those rambunctious 2-year-old twins that kept Nursery Coordinator Janice Farah and her volunteer team busy!

Macken family winter 2012 In August and September, Pastor Ken Macken stepped in to provide pulpit supply while being considered as an Interim Pastor. As the Interim Search Committee, the Session and the Presbytery diligently worked out the details, Ken continued the work of healing and encouragement for staff, volunteers and members.  He began work as the official Interim Pastor on October 21st and continues in that role today.

Worship Arts Ministry

Sunday mornings in 2012 rested in the capable hands of Worship Arts Director Thornton Woerner who worked with Pastors Anderson and Macken and the Praise Singers and Band to coordinate meaningful worship that glorified God.

Thanks also to: Lisa Rigoni with In Action Drama Team; Dave Matrisch with Sound and Audio Tech Team; and James Carder with Video Tech Team.

 Special 2012 Worship Events
  • Sing to King 2 July 2012: Sing to the King Concert Event to benefit Kailey's Krew Foundation and Ronald McDonald House. Youth Praise Band with technical and creative assistance from Thornton Woerner.
  • December 2012: Layton Howerton Family Christmas Concert.
  • Christmas program Christmas Program: "Something's Up Down in Bethlehem"  directed by Lisa Rigoni and Thornton Woerner.

Children's Ministries in 2012
focused on our Sunday morning program during 2012. The new Clubhouse format celebrated its first anniversary at the beginning of June and continues to serve our children from age 4 through 5th grade. Our curriculum offers both large group interaction and small group age-specific activity all wrapped in the caring attention of our Clubhouse Crew. This flexible and dedicated group of about 30 volunteers serving one Sunday each month provides a quality program every Sunday while still allowing everyone to attend church on a fairly regular basis. Earlier in the year, The Clubhouse program was presented during both worship services. With a total active enrollment of about 40 children, weekly attendance is consistently about 20.

3rd grade Bibles Christian Education Committee
  • Established a list of topics important to include throughout our programs in order to prepare our children for confirmation and adult membership in the church.
  • Reviewed our current curriculum in light of this list and found it to be a good choice to continue.
  • Expanded our scope to include oversight of and assistance with Confirmation Class for 2013.
  • Began plans for Vacation Bible School at CPC July 8 - 12, 2013.

Frontline Student Ministries
Mission Trip Send off
Mission Trip Send Off

Frontline Student Ministries continued to see God work in mighty ways in 2012.

During that time our Middle School Ministry Ignite grew to over 50+ students, and our Senior High Ministry averaged around 60+ students. We saw new momentum throughout the ministry, and were blessed to see 55 students and adults attend the Group Workcamp in Greenville, Michigan. This was our largest group ever, and the blessings from taking such a group are too numerous to mention.

Water Olympics 2 God continues to move at CPC and among our students. We're excited to see those who feel called to full-time ministry pursue God. We're blessed to see Seniors move on with a newfound knowledge of what a relationship with Christ means, and we continue to "press on," to whatever God calls us to. We also have been blessed to see some strong spiritual maturity in many of our students, and it's also great to know that our students lead not only at church, but within the local community.

As we look forward to 2013, we continue to pray that God will make Frontline the place where those who are looking for a "safe place" to investigate the claims of Christ may do so without any hindrances. Our desire is to be the body of Christ to the greater Chatham community.

  • September. Started H2O (Hope, Healing, Overcoming) program on Thursday nights to include GriefShare & the first Divorce Care group. This program offers childcare and refreshments to participants at no cost. This involves the help of several faithful members of the congregation.  Also in September we were awarded an $8,000 grant from the Presbytery to assist with H2O program.
  • October. Started making preparations for "Pure Class" event scheduled for March, 2013 for High School aged girls to teach about sexuality and God's plan for this part of their lives. Over 10 women from the congregation are participating in planning this event.
  • NovemberHoliday GriefShare & Divorce Care program Event. Also, in November, Donna spoke at the Service of Remembrance at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Springfield. We hired a new person to help with billing services for Crossroads.
  • December. Margie led a class on Grief Recovery at Lamphier High School in Springfield.

In the midst of all this activity Donna and Margie were able to serve over 160 clients through Individual, Marriage, Pre-marital, Family and Group counseling. We updated our Fee Scale, completed continuing education classes, coordinated care with insurance companies, doctors, teachers, and worked toward many events in 2013.
