Greetings!

     

Sermon Series Ken Macken We are pleased to announce that Pastor Ken Macken has agreed to serve as Chatham Presbyterian's Interim Pastor through 2013 as we work under God's direction to stabilize the health and well-being of the church and prepare to start the full-time pastor search process.

Ken officially starts his Interim service on Sunday, October 21st, with a six-week series entitled: "Great Endings in the Bible: Six Stories of the Bible That Will Change Your Life." 

 

Meanwhile, this communion Sunday, October 7th, Reverend Keith Anderson will preach on "What Does Your Life Say?" from Mark 8.  

 

Chatham high school teacher and pulpit supply speaker, Clark Blade, will deliver the message on Sunday, October 14th: "Love Goes to Extremes" from John 4. 

 

Trunk or Treat
Don't miss our 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat Festival on Friday, October 26th.  You and your family are encouraged to get creative and decorate a trunk.  Invite your friends to come enjoy the festivities!    

 

Invite! Invite! Invite! This is a great time to make plans to bring your friends and family to worship on Sunday mornings.

Community Outreach!
Trunk-Or-Treat Festival
Friday, October 26th

We need you and your decorated car trunk at CPC's Annual Trunk-or-Treat Festival set for Friday, October 26 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. It's a great opportunity to be creative and build a trunk celebrating a sport's team or a family-friendly favorite movie, story, character or food...the list is endless! Prizes will be awarded. We're also looking for cookie and pumpkin donations. To enter a trunk, make donations or help plan this event, please sign up outside the sanctuary or email Amy Bifano at sabiffers@aol.com or call her at 483-8416.

CE October The Clubhouse: Friends, Faith and Fun!  Bring your kids to the Clubhouse this month as they embark on a Wilderness Trail and learn about Respect.

"The Lord's Prayer" is our Christian Education focus this month for all ages. Try saying it around the dinner table together.

CE October OCTOBER LINE-UP 
  • October 7th: We respect people in charge - David spares King Saul's life from 1 Samuel 24:1-22.
  • October 14th: We respect everyone - Jesus teaches about respecting others from Luke 6:27-36.
  • October 21st: We respect ourselves - Paul teaches that we are God's masterpiece from Ephesians 2:8-10.   
  • October 28th: We respect God's creation - Taking care of God's creation from Genesis 1:27-28, 2:4-25.        
Don't forget Sunday School offering: Through contributions to Compassion International, the Clubhouse is supporting Freddy, his family and his community. We look forward to opportunities to communicate with him and learn more about his life.

 
  







FRONTLINE UPDATE:
Fall is here with a number of fun activities for the students! You can pick up a schedule with all the details at the new Warehouse Welcome table.  Also, sign-up sheets are available for parents and interested adults to take a Sunday volunteer shift for IGNITE, Mosaic and Olsen's Cafe in the upcoming months.

Sunday Student Ministry Schedule:
  • 9:30 a.m. Worship in the Sanctuary
  • 10:45 a.m. CORE Groups in the Warehouse. There will be (1) group for Senior High students and (1) group for Middle School Students. CORE groups will be our on-site study and discipleship program.
  • 4:00 p.m. Student Leadership Team meets.
  • 5:00 p.m. Middle School IGNITE (6th-8th Graders/Warehouse)
  • 5:45 p.m. Olsen's Cafe (Olsen Hall/6th-12th Grade students for Cafe fellowship time)
  • 6:30 p.m. Senior Mosaic Worship Service (9th-12th Grade/Warehouse)
  • 7:45-8:30 p.m. Mosaic Hang-time (Warehouse).

Thanks to an $8,000 grant from the Presbytery of Great Rivers, H20 is off to a great start this fall.  

 

Help us spread the word to your friends and acquaintances in the community.  On Thursday nights,  our Crossroads Counseling Center therapists, Donna Thurston and Margie Wheelhouse, as well as lay leaders with firsthand experience of divorce and bereavement, walk along side participants through the emotions and struggles, leading toward healing and renewed life.  

 

Registration remains open for Divorce Recovery and GriefShare. Free child care is available with advance registration. A $15 fee includes workbook cost for each program. To register, call Crossroads at 483-1224.

Christmas Program Practice To Begin This Month

Calling all 3rd - 8th graders! Practice for "Something's Up Down In Bethlehem: A Christmas Story of Compassion and Love" will begin on Sunday, October 14th from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Preschoolers through 2nd grade will practice during Sunday School and in November.

The program will be held on December 16th which will be a one-service day from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.  An added note: Olsen's Café is open with dinner options (for purchase) from 5:45 - 6:30 on Sunday evenings.  Come grab dinner while your kids practice and enjoy fellowship with our students.

Holiday Ministries: Book Drive and Angel Tree Collections Will Start Up in November
Stay tuned for more information from Jane Byram about the Book Drive and Lorie Meyers about the Angel Tree program to serve needy area families.
