Issue 3

Greetings!

CPC SeniorsCongratulations to all of our high school and college graduates, pictured left to right: Tyler Thurston, Frontline Student Ministries Director Brian Durbin, Nick Bifano, Jessica Kerans, Eric Esperum, Audrey Giacomini and Hope Hall.

Take note! New summer office hours: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Thank you to all the Sunday School teachers who have served this past year: "So many people have allowed God to shine through them so that our children may learn what it means to shine for Jesus in their own lives," says Children's Ministry Director Laura Van Proyen. "As the school year comes to an end and we look back over our first year in the Clubhouse, we want to recognize everyone for their support of CPC Children's Ministry." If you see the folks listed in the right hand column below, please say thank-you!  Plus, be sure to enjoy viewing The Clubhouse video that Nick Bifano put together celebrating this past year.  Click here for the You Tube link.

Calling all Prayer Warriors! Meet in the library before church on Sundays in June from 9:00 - 9:15 a.m. Maybe you are thinking, "I don't like to pray out loud." You don't have to speak a word. Pray quietly and corporately with others who have come to do the same and see how God will change you and CPC through prayer. "What will we pray about?" For starters, God's call for Chatham Presbyterian and its work, future leaders of the congregation, direction for our financial situation and new ways we can reach out to others with the love of Jesus Christ.

Best part? Bring your kids or grandkids, and they will pray in The Clubhouse from 9:00 - 9:05 a.m. and then do a prayer related activity afterwards: Bubble prayers (June 3rd), Prayer journal activity (June 10), Paper airplanes (June 17) and Prayer boxes (June 24).

Summer Picnics:"CPC Lunch on the Lawn" June 24th from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  Come join us for fellowship and fun as we try a new gathering this summer called "Lunch on the Lawn." Pack your family a lunch (or go pick up fried chicken at County Market!), bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and picnic with other CPC families on the lawn.  Drinks and dessert will be provided.  Informal games like kickball, four-square, bubbles and chalk will be available for the kids.  Save these upcoming dates for "Lunch on the Lawn" -- July 15th and August 12th.

Wisdom Quest
Clubhouse Kids  Friends, Faith and Fun!  From Old Testament stories of Solomon and his proverbs to the New Testament parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders, Clubhouse kids are on a quest for wisdom during June. Together we will learn that God is wise and that it is from him we receive wisdom. We'll discover that asking God for this gift will help us make wise decisions and that the wisest choice we can make is to follow Jesus. So grab your magnifying glass and get ready to search for the wonderful treasure God offers each of us - wisdom.

Clubhouse Summer Mission Project Will Support Youth Mission Trip

Every youth and adult going on the high school and college mission trip in July will receive a goody bag filled with items of food, comfort and fun from their family and friends at CPC.

The bags will be purchased with Sunday school offerings and decorated by Clubhouse students. We will collect a variety of small items from the congregation to fill the bags along with notes of encouragement and support.

Watch for announcements coming in June with details about how you can help the Clubhouse kids with this project. If you have questions or want to volunteer your help, contact event coordinator, Sarah Peterman, at 622-7236 or dutchjo@comcast.net.

Nelson's Chicken Dinner Fundraising continues for the July Mission Trip to Michigan.  No cooking for you!  Pick up your delicious chicken dinner on Tuesday, June 12th from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. at CPC.  Orders and money ($10 a dinner) are due to Amy Bifano (553-0832) by this Sunday, June 3rd.

Wisdom SeriesSession Updates
Reverend Keith Anderson begins a new sermon series "God's Wisdom" in June.  The Clubhouse Kids will also be studying wisdom during their Sunday School time, so be sure to ask them about their lessons.

The Session approved the following folks to the Interim Search Committee: Pam Bruzan, Stuart Byers, Jason Dockter, Christian Hansen, Polly Hulcher, Marci Small, Jim Thurston (chair).

CPC buildingBusiness Manager Matt Nixon reported a $34,000 deficit in the budget from January 1 to May 24, 2012.  An informal spending freeze has been in place since March.  The total projected deficit in the budget for all of 2012 was $20,000 so the Session continues to focus on and discuss ways to raise money and cut expenses further. The June 15th Session Update will include additional ideas and options being reviewed.

The Session welcomes your questions, comments or concerns.

card ministry
CARD MINISTRY CHANGES COMING

IN JULY

Beginning on 7/1/12, the Alice Rhoda Card Ministry will be making a transition. Birthday and anniversary cards will no longer be sent. Instead, birthdays and anniversaries will be printed in the weekly church bulletin, so that we can congratulate one another personally. (Dave Rhoda supports this change.)

Additionally, this information will continue to be published on the CPC website calendar.

The Alice Rhoda Card Ministry will begin sending get well, sympathy, and "thinking of you" cards as needed. These cards will be on the table in the narthex, ready for signatures.

We remain committed to uplifting one another in Christian love through this ministry. If you would like to be part of the card team, please contact Cindy Gamble or Sandy Minert.
Thank you
