Spiritual Care Partners Program

Spiritual Care Program Team
Bon Secours Richmond's Spiritual Care Partners team has made a difference in patients' lives.

The challenge of meeting patients' spiritual needs in the ever-changing environment of health care inspired the Bon Secours Richmond Pastoral Care department to explore innovative approaches to ministry.

With this challenge in sight, the Spiritual Care Partners program was launched in the fall of 2013. Spiritual Care Partners is an intensive training program that in the past year and a half has trained 25 volunteers to provide spiritual care to hospitalized patients.

In Her Own Words

Doctor Yvonne Johnson-Threat
Dr. Yvette
Johnson-Threat
CMO, Richmond Community Hospital

"Studies have shown that patients can have better outcomes when they are cared for by persons with similar backgrounds to their own. Diversity and inclusion allow us to provide care that is patient centered and responsive to the needs of all populations ---  we are better together. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said: 'An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.' We in Bon Secours commit ourselves to providing care for all people."
