A New Look for the CTS
Later this month at the New York International Auto Show, Cadillac will unveil its newly redesigned CTS luxury sedan. Scheduled to hit showrooms in the fall, the CTS has played a key role in revitalizing the Cadillac lineup for GM. According to Bob Ferguson, Vice President for Global Cadillac, the new CTS is "just gorgeous" and he says Cadillac plans to position the car as "a step up." Ferguson also said the new CTS will be a strong competitor against the BMW 5-Series. Recently, Cadillac has also added a pair of limited edition finishes for its current CTS vehicles in Silver Frost for the CTS V-Coupe and Stealth Blue for all body styles.

ATS Safety Features Help the Hearing Impaired
Technology assists today's drivers in myriad ways. From hands-free parallel parking to finding the nearest Chinese restaurant, advancements in tech have forever changed the way we interact with our cars.
The Cadillac ATS is no different. Safety features available on the ATS, like the optional Driver Awareness or Driver Assist packages utilize visual and sensory alerts and they are opening up a whole new world to the hearing impaired driver.
It starts with Sensor Fusion which integrates sensors, radar, cameras, GPS and digital mapping. "The camera, sensors and radar technology act as 'the brain' behind all the safety features, feeding data 25 times per second into the car's computer network," said Jim Nickolaou, lead engineer of Sensor Fusion. The key feature of the Driver Awareness Package is the Safety Alert Seat that pulses either to the left, right or simultaneously to alert the driver to the direction of the potential hazard. GM's Ray Kiefer who first came up with the idea of the pulsing seat was actually inspired by the way hearing-impaired persons utilize tactile modality or the sense of touch.

| Safety | Armoring an Escalade It seems that, among celebrities, politicians and other high profile individuals, the Cadillac Escalade is the vehicle of choice when it comes to safety. Armoring cars against a variety of lethal weapons has become big business- it takes the latest technology to do the job right so the vehicle doesn't appear modified and continues to operate at a high standard. Trained specialists start by removing components from the body including seats, carpet, wiring and other interior details. The interior floor will be replaced with a multi-layered ballistic nylon armor - designed to withstand a bomb blast - and then recovered with carpet. The doors and other cavities, like pillars, are cut open so protective materials can be stuffed or welded to fill those voids. Typically the doors will be bolstered with steel plates made from a combination of ballistic nylon and Kevlar, the material found in bulletproof vests. Bumpers will be reinforced giving the vehicle the ability to run through a roadblock without damaging the radiator. |
