What's Going On in November at MLC?

No White Stuff Yet: It's been a beautiful fall, and though we did hear ominous warnings of snow one day this week, we only ended up seeing a little sleet. And this weekend, it's back up into the 60s! As for the rest of November, who knows!

Students Grow in Self-Awareness: "I'm more outgoing than I thought. . . . I've got to study more than I did in high school. . . . I'm not the best athlete at school anymore - and that's okay. . . . It's fun to express myself in class. . . . My roommate and I can disagree and still be friends. . . . My college friends are very different from my high school friends. . . . I like making my own decisions."

High School Students on Campus: About 250 high schoolers will be here for Focus on Ministry weekends at the end of October and beginning of November, and we'll have more for the Tip-Off Tournament in December. It's great for your students to reconnect with younger friends and do some recruiting as well.

Campus Busyness:
 Fall sports wrap up their seasons . . . Basketball starts . . . Guys and Dolls hits the stage November 6-8  . . . presentations and convocations . . . concerts . . . Thanksgiving break
Has the Helicopter Landed?
helicopter parents
Cartoon by Rev. Jeff Bovee

Are you a helicopter parent?

Do you love, or do you hover?

Are you simply interested and concerned, or are you interfering and hindering your child's growth?

On the other hand, is it possible to be too hands-off?

Take a look at our checklist.

What About the Sibs Left Behind?

Lots of little brothers and sisters visited their college sibs at Homecoming.

When a child goes off to college, she's not the only one making big transitions. As you've probably already encountered, the brothers and sisters left at home have challenges of their own. The house is suddenly unbalanced. Something has shifted, and emotions run high for a while.

Just what's going on with those younger sibs?Read more.
