Auxiliary funds a wide array of projects

2014 Auxiliary Board members
The Ladies' Auxiliary project list totals almost $18,000 for this year, and all 11 projects have now been funded! The MLC Auxiliary is committed to funding three standing projects each year: scholarships - $3,000, library materials - $1,250, and outreach projects - $2,500. The other projects are prioritized for funding at the annual fall meeting after receiving requests from MLC faculty and staff. This year's projects provided needed materials for work in education, music, early childhood, and the MLC Library. If you would like to contribute toward extra-budgetary projects for next year, send a check to MLC Ladies' Auxiliary, 1995 Luther Court, New Ulm MN 56073 or donate online by selecting Ladies' Auxiliary in the drop down menu. To find more information about Auxiliary projects, see the list of 2013 - 14 projects.

Auxiliary "Befriend a Student" program continues

Hannah Hackbarth and her Auxiliary friends

The MLC Ladies' Auxiliary is assisting congregations in finding students who would appreciate some encouraging words during their time at MLC. The Auxiliary's "Befriend an MLC Student" program matches groups and individuals with student who are receptive to receiving this contact. When a congregation expresses an interest, Auxiliary representatives will send the congregation a photo, mailing address, e-mail address, and birth date of the selected MLC student(s). The Ladies' Auxiliary will also send suggestions of encouragement that other congregations have used in the past. The goal of the program is to set up a "friend" for as many MLC students as possible.Send an email to [email protected] for more information.

Spring meetings remain popular
Ron Pile and Joyce Christmas, students from the Caribbean, present to an Auxiliary spring meeting.

Women and men from across Minnesota gathered this spring at various churches to learn more about MLC and the Ladies' Auxiliary. A campus video allowed attendees to hear reports from MLC President Mark Zarling and a wife of a second-career student whose family uses the MLC Food Bank. In addition to the video, MLC students from our churches in the Caribbean reported on the unique ministry work conducted on the islands of Antigua and St. Lucia. Wonderful fellowship was enjoyed by all. One spring meeting attendee commented, "This is the first meeting I've come to. They are so informative, I'm coming back next year and will bring my friends!"

Auxiliary Board gets ready for next yearHospitality Tent

At its May meeting, the Ladies' Auxiliary Board made preparations for supporting the MLC campus family during the 2014 - 15 school year. They will begin the year staffing the Freshman Orientation hospitality tent (pictured), greeting families and answering any of their questions. On Saturday, October 25, the national Auxiliary meeting will again include interesting workshops, speakers, and worship opportunities. Bingo night continues to be a highly anticipated activity among students, and the board hopes to keep that interest high with more great food prizes and gift cards this year.  The "Befriend an MLC Student" will enter its second year of student encouragement. Look for more news on these and other Auxiliary initiatives in future months.
