Editorial:

OHHN organizes support for Lead Task Force

In our last newsletter, we wrote that Ohio Healthy Homes Network (OHHN) is building support for a Governor's Lead Task Force that would bring together a wide range of stakeholders for one year to study the current lead law, make recommendations and draft legislation.

The Lead Task Force would overhaul the law so that Ohio no longer uses young children as "lead detectors" and instead, requires owners of pre-1978 housing to control lead hazards so the housing is maintained "lead safe".

Next year the state must pass a 2-year state budget. OHHN would like to see language authorizing the Task Force as well as funding for the Lead Fund in the budget.

OHHN is meeting with associations, organizations, businesses, parents and others to discuss the Task Force and Lead Fund. OHHN welcomes your ideas and help with education and outreach (contact Patricia Barnes, Coordinator, for more information). For the Task Force proposal, click here.
