I looked up the origins of Valentine's Day and found that it began in the fifth century as a pagan ritual to honor fertility. It is sometimes better not to be so curious!  Over the centuries it has morphed into the holiday of love and romance that we all know.

Of course, Global Grandmothers is not in the business of promoting romance (although there is nothing wrong with a nice hug!), but we are about helping each of us express the "grandmotherly" love and support we feel for all children.

Kate Parnes,
Global Grandmothers V.P.
Our mission is to build a community of people like you committed to giving to charities which express that care, care for children we don't know and may never meet, but whose lives may change because of us. We pick charities we trust and keep you informed about their work so you can decide where to donate.

Now, we are asking you to help us by supporting Global Grandmothers directly with a donation. This is our first direct donation campaign since we started in 2011. The dollars received will support our efforts to expand our community, enhance our website, and make giving easier.

In a January 21, 2017 op-ed column in the New York Times, Nicholas Kristof suggested that 2017 might be the best year ever. Why? Because, trends toward the elimination of deadly childhood diseases are up, global poverty is down, and global literacy is way up. Our recommended charities helped make these changes - and so did you. We want to continue our partnership with you to keep these trends going. We ask that you "Share the Love" with us. Support our mission and donate, whatever you can, to Global Grandmothers.

Happy Valentine's Day. A special Valentine will be coming your way. Watch for it!

P.S. Thanks in part to you, this important, on-going work is being accomplished by our recommended charities. The examples below provide a snapshot of some of the work.
  • Polaris Project reports that in 2016, there was a 35% jump in reports of human trafficking in the U.S. due to their hotline.
  • Nepal Youth Foundation built and opened a permanent residence for the homeless Nepali children they serve in spite of the devastation from the earthquake.
  • Nurse-Family Partnership reports that in California alone, as of June 2014, for the clients they served, 92% of babies born were full-term and at a healthy weight.
