The world is celebrating girls!

October 11th was International Day of the Girl.  The Empire State Building was lit red in celebration of girls and of Save the Children's signature color.

MIchelle Obama

Tonight Michelle Obama and Meryl Streep appear on CNN in the
documentary "We Will Rise: Michelle Obama's Mission to Educate Girls Around the World,"  airing at 9 p.m.  (but check your local listings to be sure).  The 60-minute special chronicles the trip these fabulous women took to Morocco and Liberia to shine a light on the need for girls' education, and its promise, worldwide.

And speaking of the promise of girls' education, take a look at CAMFED.
CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education, a Global Grandmothers recommended charity, supports girls' education in Sub-Saharan Africa with tuition, uniforms, books, other school fees and mentoring.  Once graduated, CAMFED alumnae form a powerful network to undergird the next generation of students.  See how CAMFED changed the life of  Alice Saisha, who tells her story here:
Alicia Saisha: advocating for change

Isn't  this the kind of charity you would like to support - and wouldn't a donation to CAMFED make a great linked gift for your grandchild or loved one?  Click below to make that gift.

To learn more about CAMFED and its wonderful work, If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area on Saturday, November 5, we invite you to join us at a tea in Sausalito,  2-4 pm.  Maggie Weifel, CAMFED staff member, will be there to discuss their work - as will fellow friendly Global Grandmothers!  Click here for more about the tea.

CAMFED is also a powerful force against child marriage, a continuing problem for Sub-Saharan African girls.  Click here to peruse the UNICEF report on the right.

Thank you for joining us in making the world better for everyone,  for boys  - and for girls.

Sincerely,

Diana McDonough
