Confused about where to give? Let us help you!
Diana confused

Have you ever faced this problem -  lots of solicitations and no clue where to give?

Were you "Mary the haphazard giver" as one of our board members recently characterized herself?

Global Grandmothers is here to rescue you! We've already researched charities so you don't have to!

We look for child-centered charities that
--span the globe and
--address a range of needs including emergency intervention, health, education, and trafficking.

Then we pick a few, based on ratings from acknowledged evaluators Charity Navigator, CharityWatch, Guidestar and other services. We recommend these charities on our website, and in our Global Grams. Our selections are weighted toward the developing world because that is where the need is greatest and where your dollar goes the farthest.  For our criteria, click here and scroll down.

Here's what we recommend now:
Half the Sky - making sure orphans in China get the love and care they need.
Nepal Youth Foundation - for 25 years supporting youth in Nepal, fighting trafficking, malnutrition, homelessness, and lack of education.

Partners In Health - bringing quality health care to the neediest parts of the world.
Polaris - fighting human trafficking in the US with advocacy, services, and a hotline.
Room to Read - dedicated to child literacy and education for girls in the developing world.
Save the Children - wherever there is an emergency, Save the Children is there. Right now they are helping in the urgent crises facing Syrian refugees and migrant children all over Europe.
Click below to give now to one of these charities.

There are many charities beyond these that are worthy of your support. We encourage you to review their track record, using evaluative resources on our site or others that you know, and then to settle on a few. That way you can get to know them, and enjoy the thoughtful giver's satisfaction of actually doing something good!

P.S.  You may think about back to school at this time of year.  Here's a wonderful look at the education that donations to one our recommended charities, Room to Read, have made possible.

Meet our new board members . . .

Mary Bevernick
Mary is a retired educator who lives in Boulder Creek and Laguna Beach, California.

"I became a Global Grandmother because I was not satisfied with my historically haphazard approach to supporting the world's children. Through GG I can focus my efforts, support high functioning charitable organizations, and involve my own grandchildren in the joy of giving."

Miriam Freedman
Miriam is an attorney retired from representing Massachusetts school districts, now residing in Palo Alto, California.

"I have worked for and with children in public schools 'forever' but Global Grandmothers offers me an opportunity to expand my perspective to helping children everywhere. My early childhood was outside the US so this is especially interesting to me."

Judy Van Hoorn
Judy is a retired education professor who lives in El Cerrito, California.

"I became a Global Grandmother to join with others concerned about all children's future. I'm a retired professor of education focused on young children's development. As a grandmother I'm again seeing first-hand the importance of good beginnings for every child."

 AnnualAnnual Charity Research Update

As you know we annually review the charities we recommend to make sure they continue to hold a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator and meet certain other standards. Sarah Pruden, our charity chair, oversees this for us.

NPH logo
This year we were saddened to learn that NPH USA, a charity providing much-needed homes for desperate and abandoned children in Latin America, lost its 4-star rating with Charity Navigator and thus is no longer eligible for our recommendation.  As Chuck Allworth of NPH USA explained to us, it really was the result of an accounting anomaly, as is sometimes the case with Charity Navigator's system.  We continue to believe NPH-USA is an outstanding place to put your money to support children in need in Latin America.  Visit their site at NPH USA.

New
New members speak . . .

"I checked out your website and joined up.  I love the idea of donating a gift to a child in need whenever I go a little crazy at Baby Gap.  The work you are doing - evaluating nonprofits for their integrity - is so important."
- Virginia Reuter, San Francisco, California

"I'm anxiously awaiting the birth of a grandhild in November... and would like to link my giving to this long-awaited grandchild with making life a little less difficult for some other child whose grandmother isn't able to provide for him or her to the extent that I can."
- New member, Edwards, Colorado

"I just learned about GG from A Path Appears. I will make my first donation to Half the Sky next week."
- Louise Murray, Morristown, New Jersey
