Surely it is one of the glories of life to feel safe in your home. Can you imagine what it is like to be fleeing for your life when you are only a child?
Six thousand Syrians are doing this every day, and about half of them are children. In a country of 22 million people, one in three is on the move, either internally displaced within Syria's borders, or in a neighboring country. Two million Syrians now live outside Syria, about one million of them children.
Save the Children, one of GG's recommended charities, is addressing this crisis. Its Syrian emergency relief fund is only 40% funded and it needs our help. Go to the Syria Children in Crisis Fund to make your donation.

See how a child-friendly space helped Nadeem

As a relief agency focused on children, Save the Children not only assists with basic needs but also works on normalizing children's lives and on the structures that can make that happen. Syria was previously a highly educated country but now many children have not been in school for 1, 2 or even 3 years.
Save the Children has set up 50 "child-friendly spaces" and "youth-friendly spaces." Young children can stay up to 4 hours in the child-friendly space, playing with friends and enjoying stories and toys, while parents deal with obtaining the necessities for daily life. Youths are coached in academics so they can start school again, perhaps now in a new language as well as a new country.
You can add your dollars to help avert this humanitarian disaster at Syria Children in Crisis Fund, and, with me, give thanks that Save the Children is there to help.
