June 7, 2013 Greetings!
My granddaughter, a "Pre-K" graduate, looked so proud as she shared her diploma with me.
If you too have a graduate in your family and are looking for a linked charitable gift that celebrates their educational achievement, consider Camfed.
Camfed (Campaign for Female Education) was founded in 1993 to tackle poverty in rural Africa. Since that time more than 1,940,700 children in the poorest areas of Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe have benefited from its programs.
Camfed recognized early that girls' education is the single highest-returning investment that can be made in a developing country because an educated girl will:
- Earn up to 25% more and reinvest 90% in her family.
- Be three times less likely to become HIV-positive.
- Have fewer, healthier children.
Camfed provides school fees, supplies and uniforms to support girls from primary through secondary school and into adulthood. It surrounds girls with a network of support so that the girls are not lost as they transition from primary to secondary school and into the world of work.
Today, Camfed works with 3,667 schools in rural sub-Saharan Africa, providing support for more than half a million children. You can support those graduates along with your own grandchild by visiting the Camfed site and clicking on donate.
Congratulations to all our Graduates....close to home and around the world. Job well done!
