Greetings!

You may have heard that on October 1 and 2 at 9 PM PBS will air "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide" on the program Independent Lens.
Over the two days, Half the Sky will take viewers on a tour of ten countries to explore issues including maternal mortality, gender-based violence and human trafficking.   Of special interest to Global Grandmothers, Half the Sky will feature one of our recommended charities, Room to Read, and its work in Vietnam. You will be treated to the stories of three individual young women from Room to Read's Girls' Education program as they work to create a better life for themselves and their families. Inspired by the best-selling book of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, the documentary is aimed at galvanizing public action for the rights of women and girls.   Set your VCRs or watch live and enjoy this wonderful opportunity to be educated and inspired.
