Ruby Hill Railyard Now Open!
Denver Parks & Recreation and Winter Park Resort are proud to announce the opening of the Ruby Hill Rail Yard for another exciting season! The Ruby Hill Rail Yard -- a man-made snow terrain park for skiers and snowboarders located in Ruby Hill Park at Florida Avenue and Platte River Drive-- is expected to stay open for a six week season thanks to the efforts of snowmaking equipment and cool conditions over the last month. Snowboard and ski fanatics will be stoked to discover seven different rails of varying configurations and skill levels, and novices will appreciate the designated learning area.
While most resorts require a long drive and thick wallet, the Ruby Hill Railyard is conveniently located in Denver's own backyard and FREE to all. The unusually mild weather may cause the man-made snow to melt faster than expected, so be sure to get out to there as soon as possible to hit the slopes!
Open daily from 5 am to 11 pm for as long as conditions will allow snow-making.
Free ski and snowboard rentals for kids 8 to 17 while supplies last:
Fridays: 3:00 pm - 8:00pm Saturdays: 11:00 am - 7:00 pm Sundays: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
Parents are required to fill out an equipment rental release and waiver. Click here for more information. |

Denver Clerk and Recorder Wins on Inactive Voter Issue
In a win for Denver voters, the Denver District Court recently ruled that Denver Clerk and Recorder Debra Johnson was correct in her interpretation of the law that allowed her to send ballots to all eligible voters in the 2011 Coordinated Election, including those who may have failed to vote in a previous election.
The suit was precipitated when Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler sued Johnson before the November election to prevent her from sending mail ballots to voters listed as "inactive" due to not voting in the 2010 General Election. Legislation is anticipated to be introduced in the State Legislature to remove the "Inactive Failed to Vote" status from Colorado election law in order to facilitate more Coloradoans being able to exercise their right to vote. |

"Love the One You're With" -- Protect Your Pet with the Proper Tags and Shots Not in the market for a new pet? Take care of the pet you have by getting it licensed and vaccinated. Licenses cost: $15 a year or $40 for three years -- a small price to pay to protect the pet you love. Or save yourself the hassle of renewing and purchase a lifetime license for $150. Protect Your Pets From Coyotes Coyote breeding season has arrived and will last through mid March. Look out! As the weather gets colder and food gets scarcer, coyotes become more territorial in anticipation of breeding and protecting their pups. Coyotes are ambush predators who typically hunt by themselves, putting small outdoor pets at risk. Coyotes avoid contact with people so the best way to protect your pet is to keep them close to you, preferably inside, especially after dark. If you see a coyote don't run away. Make eye contact and act like the biggest, meanest person ever seen before aggressively chasing the coyote away. The more people harass or "haze" a coyote the more it will avoid people.
