Students and Staff Who Excel
Board recognizes four GBN DECA and Group Interpretation  
 
At the meeting on May 23,  the board conducted two students recognitions during their Students and Staff Who Excel program:

  
IHSA Group Interpretation - Third Place
The 13 members of the Group Interpretation team were effective in using only the sounds of their voices and movements of their bodies to bring to life the story of "A Monster Calls," a book by Patrick Ness. Competing against 60 schools from across Illinois, the team earned a victory of third place in the IHSA state competition.
 
The cast includes: Rachael Cell, Emily Chang, Alex Hultman, Kelsey MacDonald, Lucas Prizant, AJ Seymour, Julia Shelley, Garrett Shuman, Travis Siegel, Katie Snyder, Ryan Tucker, Brooks Whitlock, and Kayla Fox, student director. Julie Ann Robinson is the director.

 
International Career Development Conference (ICDC) Winners
Eight DECA competitors were successful in securing international honors in their individual events at ICDC this April. In each event, students faced off against the top 200 competitors in their categories, totaling 18,000 finalists from 55 states and countries.
 
1st place: Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team - Jake Feiger (Senior) and Ricky Kirkpatrick (Senior); 3rd place: Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan - Ben Zhao (Junior),
Human Resources Management - Jason Spector (Senior); Top 10: Marketing Management - Charles Kang (Sophomore); Top 20: Buying and Merchandising Team - Dylan Rose (Junior) & Griffin Mattson (Junior), Professional Selling Event - Daniel Hu (Senior)
 
The students, their sponsors and parents attended the meeting for formal recognition.

Meeting Highlights - May 23, 2016
 
Board awards furniture bid
The district will purchase new furniture for summer construction projects at both schools.  The total cost is $95,000.

Board considers purchasing existing activity buses
The district plans to purchase the activity buses currently used by the schools, and use a five-year, one dollar buyout lease. The district would then have the option at the end of the five years to buy them for one dollar, and then continue to use them or sell them outright.
