Students and Staff Who Excel
Board recognizes student musicians from GBN and GBS

At the meeting on April 11, the Board conducted four separate recognitions for GBN and GBS music students and one recognition for music staff:

 

IMEA 

A total of 17 students from GBN and GBS were selected as finalists by the Illinois Music Educator's Association (IMEA)
 
GBN Students (9): Orchestra: Allyson Bondy, Ellis Cho, Wynton Rude; Chorus: Quinn McCarthy, Yesha Shah, Jess Sorkin, Brooks Whitlock; Band: Jake Gordon, Alec Mawrence.
 
GBS Students (8): Band: Christopher Lee, Benjamin Friedland; Orchestra: Andrian Radaios; Chorus: Ethan Larson, Katelyn Ornduff, Alex Hansen, Claire Demorest, Tiffany Fujiwara.
 

Chicago Youth in Music Festival
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra honored three Glenbrook Instrumental students during the Chicago Youth in Music Festival: Alec Mawrence, Ben Friedland, and Andrian Radaios.   

 

National Youth Orchestra of the USA

Alec Mawrence was named to this prestigious group of musicians, considered by Carnegie Hall to be the finest in the country.
 

Jackie Kent Cooke Young Artists Scholarship

Josiah Yoo is one of 20 students in the nation to receive a $10,000 scholarship.
 

Mary Hoffman Award of Excellence

Mark Running and Marty Sirvatka were honored for their support of music education and their significant accomplishments.

Meeting Highlights - April 11, 2016
  
Board reviews proposed textbook changes for 2016-17 school year 
Proposed textbooks will be available for public viewing at the district office prior to the scheduled vote at the next meeting Board meeting April 25.  The general guideline is that textbooks are reviewed every five years and used for at least that long.
