Board recognizes GBN student for All-State Musical performance

On Monday, the Board of Education recognized GBN senior Rachael Cell for her performance in the Illinois High School Theatre Festival's 2016 All-State Musical.

Serving in the ensemble of the production of RENT, Cell joined 99 other students from around the state in the cast - chosen from a group of 300 top actors and actresses who auditioned for the honor.

Cell has been active with the GBN theatre department throughout her high school career, performing in "Legally Blonde," "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,"  "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe," and "Arabian Nights."

She said she is very excited to become a part of the short list of students and teachers in GBN history who have participated in the All-State cast, the largest and oldest non-competitive high school theatre festival in the nation.

Performances took place at Illinois State University January 8-9, as part of the 41st Annual Illinois High School Theatre Festival.

Scheduled Board meeting date changed
The regular Board meeting originally scheduled for Monday, March 14, has been changed to Tuesday, March 8. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the District Office Board Room.

Board discusses student fees for 2016-17
The Glenbrook High School District 225 Board of Education discussed a recommendation from the administration to freeze student fees at the same rates as last school year. The following student fees would remain the same, if the proposal is approved as presented: Driver education behind-the-wheel; towels; materials; instrument rental fee; credit card convenience charge; pre-school tuition, student parking stickers and bus transportation. 

"The administration continues to make every effort to keep costs low for our families and yet still be fiscally responsible to our taxpayers who support the District," said Assistant Superintendent for Business Affairs Hillarie Siena.

The Board will vote on student fees at their next regular scheduled meeting on March 8.  
 
Proposed fees for 2016-17
  • Driver education: $350
  • Towel fee:$10.50
  • Instrument rental: $20/semester
  • Materials: $15
  • Credit card fee: $2.50 per transaction*
  • Student parking stickers: $300/full year*
  • Preschool tuition: $160/day
  • Bus transportation fee:
  • $700 if registered between April 4 - June 3, 2016  
  • $830 if registered after June 3, 2016
*The Board discussed adjusting the fees related to student parking stickers and the credit card convenience fees, and will continue that discussion at the next regular meeting.
