Board recognizes three students for exceptional writing

At the meeting on September 15, three students were recognized for their National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement in Writing awards during the Board's Students and Staff Who Excel segment.
 
GBN seniors Suyeon Hong and Emily Chen, and GBS senior Caroline Bodnya were recently honored with National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement Awards in Writing. These students earned this recognition for outstanding writing by submitting polished and impromptu pieces this past spring. A panel of English teachers judged more than 1,600 student entries from across the country.

District proposes external web hosting services
The Board reviewed a proposal to hire AmericanEagle.com to provide hosting and support services for the next three years at an annual cost of approximately $12,200.
 
While most end-users will never notice a difference, the potential move to an externally hosted district website would mean a greater ability to preserve important communications during a power outage or crisis. It would also provide programming support as the district continues to review and enhance its current website design and content.
 
Numerous area high school districts such as Stevenson, Maine, and Evanston utilize AmericanEagle.com for similar services.
 
"We are impressed with their data center and support services, and additionally benefit from the fact that they are located in close proximity in Des Plaines," said Director of Technical Services RJ Gravel.
