Board approves collective bargaining agreements for two unions,
salary increase for non-certified staff not represented by a union

On Monday, August 24, the Glenbrook High School Board of Education approved collective bargaining agreements with the Glenbrook Educational Support Staff Association (GESSA) and the Glenbrook Educational Support Paraprofessionals Association (GESPA). The Board took action to approve salary increases for non-certified staff not represented by a union.

The district and GESSA agreed to the terms of a four-year contract, which includes an aggregate 3.0 percent annual salary increase through 2017-18, with scheduled future negotiations for total compensation relative to the 2018-19 school year. Salary increases are inclusive of compensation related to any gained experience on the salary schedule (commonly referred to as STEP).

The district and GESPA agreed to the terms of a four-year contract, which includes flat-rate increases of 2.8 percent in 2015-16, 2.5 percent in 2016-17, and 2.3 percent in 2017-18.  Total compensation will be negotiated for the 2018-19 school year.

Non-union, non-certified employees will receive a base salary increase of 1.5%.  The aggregate increase is estimated to be 3%.

"We are pleased with the collaborative efforts of these groups, and their commitment to offering the district fiscal predictability that assists in maintaining our stable financial condition." said Assistant Superintendent Hillarie Siena.

There are approximately 354 employees affected by these agreements.

Glenbrooks consider hosting strategic planning process for community
The Board of Education discussed conducting a strategic planning process during this coming fall, as a means to gaining input from the school community. Once the details of this initiative are finalized, the community will receive direct communication from the district with information on how to participate.

"With two new principals and numerous new administrators, it's an opportune time to engage our school community in a process to assist in the development of a three-year vision for the district, specifically in the areas of academics and student wellness," said Superintendent Dr. Mike Riggle.

The input process will likely consist of two options: an electronic survey and/or participation in interactive meetings, to be scheduled throughout the fall.
