Board reviews outsourced services
Each year, the Board receives a summary report of expenses for the district's outsourced bookstore and food service partnerships.

This past school year was the third year of an agreement with Becks Bookstores. In addition to leading book sales and buy-backs, they also serve as the main point of contact for the district's 1:1 initiative. As part of the discussion, the Board reviewed the average cost of textbooks since the 2007-2008 school year.

"Staff are making significant efforts to implement electronic textbooks when appropriate, as evidenced by an average cost decrease for sophomores and seniors due to electronic textbooks offerings such as health and social studies," said Superintendent Dr. Mike Riggle. "It is estimated that 10 percent of our textbooks are now offered in an electronic format, representing a seven percent increase from last school year."

The district has a long-term relationship with their current food provider Quest Food Services, a vendor since 2007. The district reports a $1,126,720 food services fund balance,  and utilized $350,000 from the account to purchase new cooking lines and equipment that were installed this summer.

At the start of last school year, the district partnered with Quest to provide healthier beverage options resulting in a 10-12 percent increase in water sales and an eight percent decrease in soda purchases.

"Quest has been a beneficial financial partner throughout the years, and additionally, alway willing to improve the quality and selections for our students as evidenced by this new healthy beverage program," said Director of Operations Dr. Ptak.  "Student input on all of our food enhancements is crucial to our success and their feedback has been largely positive on the new beverage options."
