Board recognizes GBN Group Interpretation and DECA

  
At the meeting on May 4, the Board of Education recognized two separate groups of GBN students for their state-level performances: the cast of "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" and DECA.
 

DECA: 28 students qualified for the national competition.

Group Interpretation Cast

After a first place finish in sectionals and state preliminaries, the GBN cast of "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" earned a second place finish at the state competition. Cast members include: Isabella Andrews*, Austin Doughty, Sebastian Garzon*, Ryan Goldsher, Alex Hultman, Camila Kaplunov*, Emma Pfaff, AJ Seymour, Travis Siegel, Katie Snyder, Cami Tokowitz and Brooks Whitlock*. Alexis Walker and Rhea Rachakonda served as student directors.

DECA

During the State competition March 12-14, GBN DECA made history with its biggest batch of first place trophies (12) and written event entries (16 business plans). The following 28 students qualified to compete in the national competition:

Meeting Highlights - May 4, 2015 

Board hosts annual reorganization meeting

The Board of Education conducted its annual reorganization meeting on May 4, for the purpose of seating officials, electing officers and appointing committee representatives.

 

Three returning elected officials who ran unopposed in the spring election were seated during the meeting, and include Skip Shein, Bob Boron, and Joel Taub.

 

Skip Shein was approved to continue to serve as Board President. This is his seventh consecutive year in this role. Robert Boron was approved to continue to serve as Board Vice President. This is also the seventh consecutive year that he will maintain this position. Rosanne Williamson was appointed to fill the Board Secretary position.  It has been the tradition of the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services to hold this role.

 

The Board also maintained its committee structure and representatives as follows: Ed-RED: Hanley; Facilities: Boron, Doughty, Shein; Finance: Doughty, Martin, Taub; Glenbrook High School Foundation: Hanley; Glenview Economic Development: Martin; IASB Representative: Shein; Northbrook Community Relations: Doughty; Northbrook Economic Development: Taub; NSSED: To Be Announced; Oakton Community College: Wilkas; Scholarship (GBN): Wilkas; Scholarship (GBS): Taub; Board Spokesperson: Boron; Technology: Hanley, Shein, Wilkas.

 

The Board also approved the regular meeting schedule for the 2015-16 school year.
