PARCC Testing UpdateThe administration provided the Board with an update regarding recent PARCC testing administered to segments of the student population over the past couple weeks. The state-mandated PARCC test, which replaced the PSAE test, will be used to measure student proficiency relative to the Common Core Standards.
The Glenbrooks administered PARCC tests electronically to students currently enrolled in junior level English classes and Algebra 2 math classes, via the district-issued Chromebooks. GBN and GBS both cited a high testing participation rate. "This is the first time we are conducting this test, so there is a lot of new information and a little bit of a learning curve associated with it," said GBN Associate Principal Kris Frandson. "But we are monitoring the process and making changes where needed to provide the best testing conditions for our students." GBN experienced some technology glitches early in the process with regard to the wifi, but were quickly able to make necessary adjustments to resolve the issues. The Board then discussed some of the known concerns with PARCC testing, including the length of the test, loss of instructional time and the lack of relevance of the test for college admission. Vision 20/20 Initiative UpdateThe Board also reviewed a recently proposed legislative movement called the Vision 20/20 Initiative.
