Board recognizes GBS senior Lauren Ribordy

Eileen, Lauren and Mike Ribordy.

At the meeting on January 26, the Board recognized GBS senior Lauren Ribordy for her participation in the SC14 Student Cluster Competition in New Orleans this past November.

Lauren was the only high school student to compete in this invite-only event, and further, she is the only (high school) female to have ever participated in the SC14. In the past, Lauren has also been honored for her work in computer science at the state and national levels and has secured a couple of internships, most notably with Bank of America.

Her passion for computer science, and specifically, the promotion of it to women, has led her to develop a club at GBS for girls who are interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

Meeting Highlights - January 26, 2015

Peer Group program assists freshman with coping strategies

As part of the District Initiatives for 2014-15, Glenbrook staff presented an informal academic program review of the district-wide Peer Group. Teachers and students from Peer Group explained the history, purpose, and structure of the program, which targets freshmen as they transition to high school. The program utilizes the power of positive peer influence to help students cope with daily pressures of adolescence.

Facts about Peer Group:

  • Served more than 27,000 GBN and GBS freshmen since 1974
  • Utilized more than 4,600 senior student leaders since 1974
  • A vast majority of (eligible) freshmen participate in the program

The presentation was informational and no action was required of the Board. To learn more about Peer Group, please review the official Board of Education memo.
