Students and Staff Who Excel

The Board will continue to recognize students and staff this fall.  Until then, the Excel program will be on break. However, there is still much to celebrate at the Glenbrooks:

Left to Right: GBN art students chalk a mural to welcome students.
GBS freshmen walk a new path to become a Titan.

School begins with expected student enrollment

Last Wednesday, almost 5,000 students from Glenview and Northbrook filled the halls of GBN and GBS for the first day of the 2014-2015 school year.

Freshman at GBS walked the new Titan Way (see story) and the entire student body transitioned to the block schedule with great success. At GBN, students and staff enjoyed a seamless start to a new school year.

Given the recent discussions regarding growing enrollment at GBS and decreasing enrollment at GBN, it's comforting to note that unofficial student population totals are close to original projections. The district administration plans to verify enrollment totals in a presentation to the Board of Education on October 13, once the official counts are completed. In addition, the Board of Education plans to review adjusted enrollment projections from both the district administration and an outside consultant at their meeting October 27.

Board considers hiring outside firm for principal search

The search is on for a worthy successor for GBN Principal Dr. Paul Pryma as he plans to retire at end of this school year. The Board of Education discussed the benefits of hiring an outside talent search firm to conduct a national recruitment and hiring process to fill this crucial position for Glenbrook North.

The district administration proposed a timeline that would culminate with the announcement of the new principal by February 2015.

Board offers public budget hearing

The tentative budget for 2014-15 has been public since July 28, and was presented during this meeting for a hearing. The Board expects to vote to approve the final budget at their next scheduled meeting on September 29.
