Students and Staff Who Excel

The Board will continue to recognize students and staff this fall.  Until then, the Excel program will be on summer break. However, there is still much to celebrate at the Glenbrooks:

Superintendent Dr. Riggle accepts an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in front of more than 800 Glenbrook staff members.

Opening Institute Ends with a Splash

On Monday morning, the Glenbrooks welcomed more than 800 staff members to the start of the 2014-15 school year during the annual Opening Institute. Superintendent Dr. Mike Riggle, Board President Skip Shein, and Assistant Superintendents Brad Swanson and Hillarie Siena remarked on topics including district initiatives, leadership, and staff health and wellness.

Following the formal presentations, Dr. Riggle accepted an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge posed earlier that morning by Swanson. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Rosanne Williamson, joined by Siena, dumped two buckets of ice water on Dr. Riggle in front of all 800 staff members attending the institute.

Staff spent both Monday and Tuesday in their respective schools preparing for the 2014-15 school year, which started this morning, August 27.

New state assessment administered at the Glenbrooks

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Rosanne Williamson summarized changes in state assessments that will begin with the 2014-15 school year.

This spring, students enrolled in their third year of English and/or Algebra II will be required to participate in The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) test. This mandated assessment replaces the previous grade 11 Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE). Tests will be administered via the student-leased Chromebooks, over multiple days, to accommodate the significant increase in total test time from the PSAE.

The Glenbrooks will continue to offer ACT Plus Writing, an optional test for juniors. This provides students with an official ACT score that may be used for college applications.
