pace with increases in enrollment and the significant expansion of its academic, fine arts and athletic programs.

"The formula initiated in 1953 still works today: generous families who care about education plus passionate teachers who love the children plus kind and inquisitive students who work together equals a learning community that smiles a lot even during challenging times," said GBN Principal Dr. Paul Pryma.  "Add a thoughtful and consistent school board over the years and this proud campus in Northbrook, Illinois continues to thrive!"

Today's complex, with more than 580,000 square feet, incorporates four courtyards. Special features include the Sheely Center for Performing Arts, fitness center, The Academic Resource Center (ARC), and a new collaborative learning space (The I.D.E.A.) designed to enhance teaching and learning with educational technology.

GBN has earned its fair share of accolades throughout its 60 years history, including being named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education  in 2008, three Presidential Awards for Excellence in Teaching Science or Mathematics, Siemens Award winner for Advanced Placement in math, science and technology and, No. 1 best high school in Cook County by Chicago Magazine and one of the "Top 100 Workplaces" by the Chicago Tribune.

Board discusses police use of school security cameras

The Glenbrook High School District 225 Board of Education continued their discussion of a Memorandum of Understanding that would allow the Glenview Police Department to access live video from security cameras at Glenbrook South during emergency situations. This agreement draft is a direct result of continued cooperation between Glenbrook South and the Glenview Police Department, and demonstrates a commitment to the safety of our school community.

"We recognize that privacy is of public concern in our society at this time, and we measure that with our need as a school to provide a safe environment for our students and staff," said Superintendent Dr. Mike Riggle. "To that end, it is important that we establish lawful and prudent procedures for the use of video by first responders in order to improve safety while protecting the rights of individuals."

The agreement outlines the expectations of both organizations and the general parameters for use of the cameras. The Board will consider approval of the agreement once the language meets their expectations and the system is successfully tested.
