SeniorCare revived through Nursing-Nutrition student collaboration
Charice Chan and Kim Tworek; teaming up for SeniorCare

What happens when you put two bright, energetic women with similar interests together in one research area? That answer is obvious: an interdisciplinary partnership that delivers benefits to those who need them most.

Kim Tworek and Charice Chan met when both began working with Susan Slaughter, Associate Professor, Faculty of Nursing. Dr. Slaughter's work focusses on improving or maintaining functional abilities in frail older adults. Kim and Charice are working in different areas; Kim is exploring the effect of  interventions on sit-to-stand activity, while Charice is studying interventions for improved nutrition. A few weeks ago Kim and Charice put their interests, skills and energies together to breath new life into an old idea.  Read more.....

Terrace Garden Committee in full bloom

The ECHA Terrace Garden is setting roots on the North Terrace! This community garden effort is run by a small group of volunteers who are helping to activate our common outdoor spaces. Everyone is welcome to stop by our sunny third floor terrace where the tomatoes are starting and the mint and basil are out in full force. Pick a few leaves for your dinner tonight! Green thumbs not required! We are always looking for help watering- a great excuse to get up from your desk and get some fresh air!

Supported by donations, our garden still needs a few items- we have several young plants still looking for permanent planter homes! Monetary and item donations are welcome, including:
  • Medium and large sized planters/pots
  • Soil/potting mix
  • Tomato cages
  • Garden hose
  • Shears
  • Tupperware storage bin
  • Broom
  • Reusable table cloths
