Happy spring - the terraces are open

With the warm weather, the terraces off the North and South atriums on ECHA Level 3 are open early. Enjoy some glorious vitamin D, treat yourself to lunch or coffee, or even hold a small meeting on one of the two terraces. Please note that there are nesting geese in the area; if animals seem agitated by your presence, you should leave immediately. (this has not been a problem so far)  We have consulted with the Canadian Wildlife Service on how to manage the nesting geese; we are required by law to leave them alone. They know what they're doing - even if it looks odd to us.
Booking a meeting room? Pad your hours.
Please remember include additional time on either side of your booking to allow for set-up and clean-up. There have been a number of complaints to the ECHA Administration office of groups attempting to enter rooms early to set up, and disrupting ongoing meetings. Add as much time as you reasonably think you will need - usually 10 minutes - but for complex events you might need more.
Staff Lockers - rent and renew
The annual renewal of staff lockers will take place starting the week of April 25th. If you wish to renew your locker, or to rent one, please email the ECHA Administration Office ([email protected]) for information. Lockers cost $30/yr; there is a $10 refundable deposit for new renters.
Confidential document disposal
If the confidential shredding bin in your usual copy/workroom is full, please use bins located in another spaces. Do not overstuff the bins! If you can reach the paper through the slot so can anyone; improperly disposing of confidential materials is a FOIPP offence and could be reported to the FOIPP Office to follow-up. Offices doing annual purges should contact the ECHA Administration Office for information on how this process is managed.
Summer hours
Engrained and Starbucks will be moving to summer hours effective
April 25th. Starbucks, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Engrained, Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Help students find study space
Please direct students to appropriate study space in ECHA (the posters with these areas indicated are here). Unfortunately, there have been some cases of students claiming shared space on floors 3, 4 and 5. These rooms are therefore locked until exams are finished. Booked rooms will be unlocked just prior to the booking time.

On the advice of Facilities and Operations, and with the support of Risk Management, we are working with Protective Services to help ensure access to these floors, and your workspace, is limited; this is to protect your safety and security. Please let us know if you have any concerns about unauthorized access to restricted areas in ECHA.

Bicycles (and tricycles)
Bicycles are not permitted in buildings on the University of Alberta campus. This is not specific to ECHA. Bicycle parking is strategically located across the campus and monthly or yearly permits can be purchased for bicycle cages located in the Education and Stadium car parks. Please contact Parking Services for more information (780-492-3811) For more information about bikes on campus, please see the Facilities and Operations FAQ found here
