Changes to elevator bank bulletin boards

Effective April 1, 2016, the small cork boards next to the elevators will be reserved for important facility or building specific information.

Please share this information widely in your groups. We will make every effort to contact those with long-term posters on these boards before they are removed. The new guidelines were developed with input from Facilities & Operations and can be found here.
ECHA bulletin boards' new posting guidelines

During the past four years we have seen a significant increase in the number and types of posters on our bulletin boards here in ECHA. To help ensure our occupant groups can use these spaces most effectively, we are implementing new, stricter
guidelines consistent with the University's policy.

The goal is to dedicate more room for you to promote your research and events. The new guidelines will be posted to the boards over the coming weeks; they are effective immediately.

Record number of students Save Stan

Students participate in a Mental Health Intervention simulation.
Over four hundred students from the University of Alberta, NAIT, NorQuest College and MacEwan University came together at the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy on Saturday March 12 to help Save Stan. Participating students were formed into interprofessional 'authentic' teams and experienced a variety of simulated health care scenarios and communication/team building activities.

This year HELP! Save Stan became part of the IntD 410 curriculum for 178 students, from nine health science disciplines, enrolled in the Essentials of Collaborative Practice (ECP) stream. "Bringing the ECP students into Save Stan gives them a unique opportunity to work through team-based challenges with students from health disciplines across four institutions. It's an unparalleled experiential learning event," says Dr. Sharla King, director Health Sciences Education and Research Commons.

And students agree. "What makes this event so special is the way students are learning in actual simulations. In a hospital placement, you're kind of the bottom of the rung," says 2nd year Physical Therapy student Jack Whiting, who was returning for a second year. "At Save Stan, everyone is working together - we are all equals."

Learn about our work with a National Center of Excellence in Knowledge Mobilization called Translating Emergency Knowledge for Kids (TREKK).

TREKK addresses an identified gap between "what we know and what we do" in the context of pediatric emergency care, particularly in the context of general emergency departments. The vision of TREKK is that every child receives the highest standard of care, whether they are treated in a pediatric or general emergency department.

Lisa Hartling and Shannon Scott will:
  • provide an overview of the goals and purpose of TREKK
  • discuss the results of a national needs assessment conducted to identify information needs and priorities
  • present strategies developed to mobilize knowledge to healthcare providers and parents, including use of knowledge pyramids, social media, and electronic tools.
  • reflect on our experience to date including factors that have helped us achieve our goals.
