LEED Silver for ECHA!

We are delighted to announce that the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy has achieved the goal of LEED silver certification.
This is such late breaking news we don't have all the details - more to follow in March. For today? Congratulations ECHA! We're green with pride:)
ECHA bulletin boards' new posting guidelines

During the past four years we have seen a significant increase in the number and types of posters on our bulletin boards here in ECHA. To help ensure our occupant groups can use these spaces most effectively, we are implementing new, stricter
guidelines consistent with the University's policy.

The goal is to dedicate more room for you to promote your research and events. The new guidelines will be posted to the boards over the coming weeks; they are effective immediately.

Every day, nearly 800 women around the globe die in childbirth . Of these women, 99 per cent are from developing nations. Nearly all of them die of preventable complications.

What role do we as Canadians play to ensure that no woman dies in childbirth? What are we doing to help save mothers' lives around the world, and is it enough?

Join us on March 8 for a public lecture with researcher Zubia Mumtaz, expert in maternal health, in honour of International Women's Day.

It's free to attend and everyone is welcome. No RSVP required.

Transforming Health Care in Remote Communities

Health care in Canada's North, other circumpolar regions such as Alaska, Greenland, the Nordic countries, and Arctic Russia-and indeed globally wherever there are scattered small remote communities-faces many challenges.

Despite considerable investment in health care resources, health disparities persist in many regions, especially between the indigenous and non-indigenous populations. Improving health and health care in remote communities requires transforming existing health systems, by developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative strategies, programs and technologies which are appropriate for the physical, social, cultural and economic environments.

This conference is for those with an interest in strengthening collaborations to improve our health-care systems and the health of circumpolar and other remote communities.

The Hacking Health Edmonton 2016 hackathon took place February 19 to 21 in ECHA; students, researchers, developers and professionals from computing science, health sciences, design and business put their heads together to come up with innovative solutions to challenges faced by older Canadians. Participants pitched 13 ideas on Friday night; on Sunday, teams demonstrated 10 prototypes of software solutions that may some day address the needs of our aging population: from depression to dementia, medication management to storytelling.

Four prizes were awarded: IBM Global Entrepreneurship, eHUB Choice Award, AGE-WELL Pitch Competition, and Hacking Health Choice Award. Among the 12 judges was Dr. Martin Ferguson-Pell, Senior Advisor to the President. Several teams will work in partnership with sponsors to take their solutions to market. Congratulations on another  #HHYEG success!
