St. Francis Xavier team visits HSERC SIM space, drops in to help Save Stan

It was another Save Stan success!  This year, the Interprofessional Health Education Partnership (IHEP) event was held in the Robbins Health Learning Centre at MacEwan University. Over 260 students took part, with UofA students from Nursing, Medicine, Kinesiology, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Recreational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology and more.  A team from the Nursing program at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish Nova Scotia was on hand to see how IHEP integrates simulation in health team education. After a tour of the Health Sciences Education and Research Commons simulation spaces here in ECHA, they spent a day observing students and facilitators in action at Save Stan 2014. As St. F.X. prepares to bring simulation training into their curriculum, the Nurse Educators made the trip to Edmonton to learn about both programming and space design.

"Save Stan Saturday was an amazing experience," says Michelle MacNeil, Nurse Educator and Nursing Lab Coordinator at St. Francis Xavier. "The way these student teams handled the simulations clearly showed the importance of learning team competencies. It was great to see how their  awareness of the each others' scope of practice heightened during the day. What a wonderful example of collaboration between educational institutions."
