The third annual Interdisciplinary Health Education Partnership (IHEP) event, a.k.a. Save Stan, was co-hosted this year by the Health Sciences Council (HSC) and the Faculty of Nursing (FoN). Using simulation space in both the Health Sciences Education and Research Commons (HSERC) and Nursing Learning Resource Centre (NLRC), IHEP once again delivered an action-packed day of health-team simulation exercises for students and facilitators from UofA, MacEwan, NAIT and Norquest.
Nadine Moniz, a faculty lecturer with the FoN and coordinator of the NLRC, says this is exactly the kind of experience Nursing students need. "The NLRC and the Simulation Centre were built to enrich student experiences within our nursing programs. We have access to a variety of simulation modalities and a rich standardized patient (SP) pool, so we can offer quality simulations. This inter-institutional collaboration means our students benefit from an experience they cannot get anywhere else."
The concept of interprofessional teamwork and education is not new. Research consistently demonstrates effective teamwork is an ability that individuals and groups can acquire through directed educational experiences. Read more in folio..... |

You know when to call 911.
Do you know when to call 377?
Call #377 on your cell or 780-423-4567 from a land line for all non-emergency calls, e.g.:- Car crashes where no one is injured and your car isn't drivable;- Vehicle break-ins or property vandalism;- A non-violent crime;- You see suspicious activity.
Calling 911 by mistake happens! 911 calls from cell phones often include errant calls and pocket dials. If this happens to you, STAY on the line and let the attendant know what happened, don't hang up. You won't get in trouble, just let the operator know you don't need help. This will allow the attendant to move on to a genuine emergency without worrying about you! After all, they don't know why you hung up, and it is their job to make sure you are safe! |
