Vol.2; Special Issue

December 3, 2012

What ever the reason, enjoy the season!

The holiday season is upon us and with it comes decoration, good food and socializing.

We invite you to decorate your spaces to mark this special time of year. The following are welcome in ECHA:
  • CSA approved lights
  • Artificial tress, wreaths, holly, mistletoe etc.
  • Apples, dates, nuts, cookies :)

Please remember:

  • Unplug all electrical decorations before you leave each day.
  • Trees and other decorations must be at least 46cm (18") from the ceiling to avoid interfering with the sprinkler systems.
  • We have occupants in the building with plant allergies. You may therefore be asked to move poinsettias, or other plants from specific areas.
If you are planning a social event in any shared open space, atrium, lightwells or main street, please make sure you book the space and alert surrounding occupants in advance.

Preventative maintenance in atriums

To prevent potential warping of the tiles in the atriums, new adhesives have been applied to some areas. Our apologies for the ony disruption this work caused during the past week. (the beeping certainly annoyed the editor of this newsletter) We expect that all work will be completed on this project by the end of the year. As is the case with any new building, adjustments may be required to specific areas as materials settle and the indoor environment changes over time. Thank you for your patience with this process.

Repair update

Repair work following the water leak in early November is ongoing and close to completion. The contractors are waiting for special order materials to finish the baseboard areas which, you will have noticed, have been patched.

The leak was the result of freeze/thaw on Sunday November 11, 2012. The affected sprinkler heads were exposed to colder temperatures by the construction work on Level 2. Although heaters were installed to protect against freezing, they were not able to keep up with the dip in temperatures on the long weekend. This was a very specific event and should not recur in the future.
