Acclaimed author, performer and patient expert
Julie Devaney coming to ECHA
Julie Devaney is attracting attention across Canada for her one-woman play, workshop and book My Leaky Body; tales from the gurney. With surprising wit and gut wrenching honesty Devaney brings us inside her very personal experience with the health system. Come hear her message. You will laugh, and you will cry, but you need to hear her story.
This event is offered free of charge as part of the Health Sciences Council's speaker series on Monday, October 29.

Celebrate Open Access Week Oct 22-28, 2012! "Open Access" to information - the free, immediate, online access to scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use that research - will transform the way research and scientific inquiry is conducted. It has direct and widespread implications for academia, medicine, science, industry, and society.
Open Access (OA) will maximize research investments, increase the exposure and use of published research, facilitate the ability to conduct research across available literature, and enhance the overall advancement of scholarship. Many research funding agencies, academic institutions, researchers and scientists, teachers, students, and members of the general public support a move towards Open Access. Open Access Week is an opportunity for all members of the community to promote greater participation.
The University of Alberta Libraries will be hosting several events during this week. Full schedule and more information here... |

Student study spaces in ECHA
ECHA is a great place to study! In fact, students were involved in helping to design the student spaces to ensure their ideas were heard and their needs were met. The building has silent, quiet, open and group study spaces as well as 'social' space where students can gather. These spaces are located on through floors L1, 1 and 2 only. (Please note that students should not bring small appliances like kettles and heaters into study rooms! This practice has been tripping breakers all week)
This downloadable map indicates student study and meeting space. |

Sustainable Building Survey
Green, or sustainable buildings are the new standard in many jurisdictions. You can be a part of an international study examining occupant experience associated with working in sustainable buildings. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete. If you haven't done this yet - this is your last chance. The survey closes soon.....please click here. |

Nutrition Tip
Snack Well When Stressed
Do you overeat or snack on foods that are higher in fat, salt, sugar or calories when you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed? Replace this unhealthy coping mechanism with a more positive approach. Make the healthy choice be the easy choice by placing a bowel of fresh fruit on the counter. Keep cut-up veggies in the fridge for a quick and healthy snack. Finally, get moving! Physical activity plays a key role in managing stress and distracts you from managing stress with food.
