WM 27

Greetings!

Risk has always seemed to me to be a very subjective proposition, where as Reward has a universally accepted definition.

You may say to the Sky Diving Hobbyist that his reward can never compensate for the  risk of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. In return he would more than likely give you a rather lengthy explanation as to the overwhelming sensation of joy and adrenaline he gets from the free fall and flying through the air untethered at 100+ miles per hour! For him that "Reward" more than compensates for the risk.

I have found in my life that with certain obvious limitations, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. If I had not risked getting on the mat for my first Martial Arts class, I would not be enjoying the unbelievable  sense of accomplishment and pride that I feel each time one of my students achieves the rank of Black Belt. In turn, each of those students has taken that same risk and has also enjoyed that same sense of accomplishment. "Life is a risk". Getting out of bed in the morning carries with it the acceptance that you are going to subject yourself to whatever the day brings. That does not mean however that we are not in control of how the day goes. We have the ability to choose to some degree what risks we take and what the outcome or "Reward" we receive from those risks.

Practice in the Martial Arts will show you over time that you are capable of so much more than you ever felt possible.

Are you in the BEST shape of your life?

Are you setting and accomplishing daily goals?

Are you moving forward each day, and toward what?

Each of these questions  will eventually shape the life you lead, and the legacy that you leave behind. What story will be told  of you when you are gone?

Exercise:

List three major goals that you would like accomplish in the next 6 months.

What rewards will you be able to enjoy from the accomplishment of these goals.

What risks will you have to take in order to make the goals a reality.

Now weigh the risk and the reward. Is it worth the risk?

The greatest accomplishments in history seldom took place at a desk or from the couch. "Life is not a spectator sport". Go out there and get it!
