Have you watched the news lately. It isn't exactly a motivational pick me up.

The stock market is falling!

The housing market is in shambles!

The job market is abysmal!

One of the few great things that I have found in times like these is the opportunity to reflect on how fortunate I am. When everyone tells me that the "Sky Is Falling", I have a natural instinct to look around me and take an inventory of my life.

Guess what... I have a great life!

I have a beautiful wife who loves me. Three adoring children who are not perfect, but embody all that I hold important in life. I have a wonderful home in the greatest nation on earth, and a profession that is not a job, but a passion.

This is the R.O.I. in my life. R.O.I. - Return on Investment.

My parents and their parents, and their parents have all made investments of time, energy, blood, sweat, tears, and faith. This in addition to my own contributions have determined the life that I lead. If it were not for the sleepless nights, long hours, and dedication of my parents and those that came before me, I may not have been afforded the opportunities that I currently have.

The martial arts offer us an opportunity to reinvest in ourselves each day that we train. A Martial Artist lives in a way that leads them to a higher plain in every facet of life. A proper Martial Artist does not allow themselves to over indulge. Whether this is in the area of food, substance, or spending. For that reason the Martial Artist who "Invests", and then "Reinvests", in themselves will reap a wonderful "R.O.I."

We are all familiar with the adage of "You will reap what you sew". This holds true in life, as it does in the martial arts. If you put in ALL of the time, talent,  and effort that you posses. Then you WILL see the results that you are looking for.
