Greetings!
Now I know that I am giving away my age when I mention this... but for those of you who grew up in he 70's & 80's the tag line at the top of this page should seem really familiar.
That's right is was used at the opening of "School House Rock"
Most of us seek out the Martial Arts for any one of a hundred great reasons. We approach the Martial Arts with a desire to learn and expand our minds, while others are still under the impression that we are a testosterone driven fight club,
The second of these could not be further from the truth. At least once or twice a month I have someone come into the school looking for a place to learn how to fight. I am always very clear in helping them to understand that there is a distinct difference between "Fighting", and "Self Defense".
Knowledge is Power ?
You could make the argument that knowledge of the martial arts is "Power" because it will give you an advantage over your opponent in a combative situation. This idea is very true, but is again in my opinion coming from a foundation of negativity.
You could make the argument that knowledge of the martial arts is "Power" because it will get you in better shape and make you stronger. This takes the phase a bit too literally.
The "Power" that is referred to is in my humble opinion, not something tangible. It is a power within yourself.
The power to be self reliant.
The power to demonstrate self control.
The power to stand and defend yourself.
The power to walk away.
These are just a few examples of the "Power" that I believe the Martial Arts have to offer. And the greatest thing of all, is that Martial Arts has no age, race, or gender requirements.
Yes, Knowledge is Power. But the question is what would you use that power for.
Respectfully,
