Greetings!
Have you ever watched a professional fighter come into a stadium before a fight? Their entrance into the ring is a very important part of the mental side of the fight and is designed to get both the fighter and the crowd amped up.
It is easy to get distracted by all of this and not to watch the fighter. I have always been interested in the ceremony within the fighters camp. I watch his Corner Man & Trainer walking behind him yelling his name, and whispering in his ear. What are they saying? Is it last minute advise? Maybe. Is it a message from his girlfriend? Doubtful.
This is his team!
They are telling him that his training is about to pay off!
They are reminding of all the sacrifices he has made to get where he is.
They are reminding him that he is not alone in the ring, that the entire team is in the ring with him.
Without a team, no fighter can win for very long. It takes a team to cover every aspect of the training. To motivate you. To believe in you. To trust you.
This analogy is not a hard one to make. It is already written out for you to see.
You Need A Team To Succeed!
Who is on your team? Do you have a team?
Exercise:
Take five minutes and build your team.
Who Motivates you to do better?
Who pushes you not to quit?
Who believes in you no matter what?
Who depends on or trusts you?
This is your team! If any of the members of your team are missing, then consider taking a moment to evaluate how you may be able to fill those positions. Community is important.
Although Martial Arts is an individual endeavor, any good school should carry within it a strong community feeling. I am fortunate enough to to have been surrounded by dedicated and passionate Martial Artists for many years now, and I can assure you that my team carries with it a full roster. Every position is full and overflowing. Because of this I have help at every turn, and a strong wall to lean on in hard times. And in turn, our team of Instructors is a part of the support team for each of our students. We make it a point to let each student know that they are going to need help to get where they are going.
Whether it is on or off the mat, we were all designed to live in "Community", and the community that we surround ourselves with will determine how our fight goes.
If we can help you or someone you know in any of these areas, let us know.
Respectfully,
Sa Bum Nym Jason Franklin
