Greetings!

Everyone loves to share their opinion with others. Let's agree that opinions, whether given in a kind and constructive manner or blunt and in your face, can be construed as "Feed Back".

We go out to eat and the tip that we leave our Waiter is our Feed back on their service.

When we buy a new car we are giving our Feed Back on the looks, performance and gas mileage of the vehicle. This feedback is not only for the new car, but the previous one.

Every decision that we make provides Feed Back to someone else.

Although we are always happy to provide this Feed back to others, are we open to the Feed Back that others are providing to us? An extremely successful Martial Arts school owner, Garland Johnson, once said, "If a student leaves your school and tells you why they are leaving, it is a gift." This statement did not immediately sink in for me, but as I pondered on it, I began to see his logic. Any time that I have had an interaction with someone, be it personal or professional, and they give me clear and honest Feed Back, it gives me the opportunity to grow.

In our training on the mat, we always want this type of information.
How can my technique be more effective? Is my posture correct?
How can I improve?
We have all been trained that this type of information will make us better at the art we practice. But what about in our professional and personal lives?

By remaining open to honest Feed Back and really "Listening" to what they are saying, we are given the gift of self evaluation. Now that is not to say that we will always like what we hear. But this can be improved on as well. All you have to do is change the way that you listen.

If we have a closed mind then undoubtedly we will hear this Feed Back as a personal attack. But if we walk into every situation looking to learn and improve on ourselves then these same statements will offer us golden opportunities to see ourselves from an outside perspective.

Now that we have this feedback all we have to do is act on it. My Father used to tell me, " If you run into 1 person in a bad mood each day, it's probably them. But if you run into 10 people in a bad mood, then it's probably you."
So look at the Feed Back that you are getting and decide if action is necessary.... and then act on it! Remember that "Success Loves Speed", and that the sooner we act on a problem, the sooner that it will be resolved.

Respectfully,
Sa Bum Nym Jason Franklin
