"The path of least resistance is the path of the loser." H.G. Wells
We all know and understand as fact that resistance training will make you stronger. This principle is held true in the practice of the Martial Arts as much so if not more than any other area. Whether you are looking at stance training, forms, weapons, grappling, sparring... the list goes on, you can not argue that without resistance there would be little use for the Martial arts at all.
What about life off the mat. While we look at resistance training as a positive in our quest for excellence on the mat, we tend to have a very different view of it in our every day lives.
I am constantly reminded that art imitates life.
So if this is also true then we must concede that resistance in our everyday lives is a necessity. It makes us stronger. It forces us to to hone our skills in every arena of life. To maintain a healthy body we are forced to resist the daily temptations of a bad diet, because you can not out train bad nutrition. In our professional or educational careers we find resistance from both internal ( laziness, selfishness etc.) and external (co-workers, Teachers, etc.) forces. If we were to look at life in the same way that we view our Martial Arts Training, then we may begin to look at this resistance as an opportunity to become stronger rather than an unfortunate circumstance.
2012 has been a year full of victories and resistance. If we can take the resistance of 2012 and combine it with the victories we can surely devise a winning strategy to make 2013 our best year ever.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a Victorious 2013!
Respectfully,
Sa Bum Nym Jason Franklin

P.S. If you know of someone in your life who could benefit from our training, let us know together we can team up to get them started on the road to excellence.
